About The Program

National Fellowship for Persons with Disabilities 2017-18 also known as the Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship (RGNF) is open for students with disabilities who have been admitted to M.Phil./Ph.D degree in a University or academic institution. The scholarship scheme aims to enable meritorious but disabled students to effectively take advantage of various opportunities at the national and international level. Under this scheme, the students will receive a monthly fellowship of up to INR 18,000 along with various other benefits.

Students with disabilities who have been admitted to M.Phil./Ph.D degree in a University or academic institution by completing the required formalities for admission in that University or academic institution are eligible to apply for this scholarship.

Benefits

A total of 200 fellowships per year will be disbursed each year. The selected students will receive a monthly fellowship, contingency grant, departmental assistance, reader assistance and HRA. The benefits will be in the following manner:

  • Fellowship for all subjects- Monthly stipend of INR 16,000 for initial 2 years and INR 18,000 for the remaining tenure.
  • Contingency for Humanities, Social Sciences and Commerce- Yearly grant of INR 10,000 for initial 2 years and INR 20,500 for the remaining tenure.
  • Contingency for Sciences and Engineering & Technology- Yearly grant of INR 12,000 for initial 2 years and INR 25,000 for the remaining tenure.
  • Departmental assistance of INR 3000  per annum per student to the host institution.
  • Escorts/Reader assistance of INR 2000 per month in cases of physically handicapped and blind candidates.
  • HRA will be given as per the rules of the university/institution.

  • Domicile certificate 
  • Scanned copy of disabilities certificate
  • Caste certificate (in case of SC/ST/OBC) issued by the competent authority viz. Tehsildar/SDM etc.
  • Scanned copy of candidate's recent colour photograph and signature
  • Scanned copy of Master's degree mark sheet
  • Declaration/certificate from the Head of Department/Institution or competent authority of the University/Institute/College
How can you apply?

Interested students can apply for this scholarship by following the below steps-

Step 1: Visit the online application portal and click on 'Apply Now'.
Step 2: Carefully read the guidelines before filling the application form.
Step 3: Fill personal details, upload necessary documents and generate a candidate registration id.
Step 4: In the next step, fill the details of the research work.
Step 5: Enter other information including employment details.
Step 6: Submit the application.

  • This scheme covers all universities/institutions recognized by the UGC and Non-Universities/Institutions
  • This scheme is for students with disabilities who are covered under The Persons with Disabilities Act, 1995.
  • Interested students should apply well before the closing date to avoid any last minute rush or network congestion.
  • There is a provision of reservation of 15% for SC and 7.5% for ST for the award of fellowships under the Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship.
